Privacy Policy

Briefly is a podcast insight and reflective journaling app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can get it deleted. It covers the Briefly mobile apps for iOS and Android and the web app at sayitbriefly.com.
Who we are
Briefly is operated by Leon Manuel, based in Australia. For any privacy question, or to exercise any right described below, contact privacy@sayitbriefly.com.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address, and a password if you do not use Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever receive Apple's relay address.
- Profile details. Display name, avatar and bio, if you add them.
- Your content. Podcast feeds you import, the snippets you capture, their transcripts and AI summaries, your tags and collections, and your journal entries including any mood you record.
- Audio. Audio you record in the app is uploaded to our storage so it can be transcribed. Snippets taken from a podcast episode reference the publisher's audio and are not re-uploaded.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and playback state. Your position in episodes, so playback resumes where you left off, and a count of AI operations so we can apply free-tier limits.
- Device tokens. If you enable notifications, a push token for your device.
- Product analytics. Aggregate events about which features are used. We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.
If you join the waitlist
Before launch you can join our waitlist at sayitbriefly.com. We store your email address, when you joined, which sign-up form you used, and how you found us (the campaign tags in the link you followed and the website that referred you, if your browser shares it). We use this only to tell you when Briefly is available and to understand which channels people find us through. We may copy your email to our email provider, Kit, to send those messages. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your waitlist entry at any time by emailing privacy@sayitbriefly.com.
Why we use it
- To provide the service: storing your snippets, transcripts, summaries and journal.
- To transcribe and summarise the audio you choose to process.
- To operate subscriptions and apply free-tier limits.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To diagnose faults and improve the product.
We do not use your content to train our own models, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of processors. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
- OpenAI — transcription and summarisation of the audio you submit. Audio and transcripts sent through the API are not used to train OpenAI's models.
- RevenueCat — subscription state for purchases made in the mobile apps.
- Apple and Google — payment processing for in-app purchases.
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions bought on the web. We never see or store your card number.
- Expo — delivery of push notifications.
- Kit — launch emails to people on the waitlist.
- Vercel — hosting for the web app.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Where your data is stored
Our infrastructure providers store and process data on servers that may be located outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. By using Briefly you consent to that transfer.
How long we keep it
We keep your content for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, snippets, transcripts, summaries, journal entries, tags, device tokens and uploaded audio are deleted immediately. Backups are purged on a rolling 30-day cycle. We retain a minimal record of transactions where tax or accounting law requires it.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access and correct your profile from Settings.
- Export your snippets and journal entries as a file from Settings.
- Delete your account from Profile → Delete account in the mobile app, or from sayitbriefly.com/delete-account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
- Withdraw consent to notifications from your device settings.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to processing, to request a portable copy of your data, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Australia, that is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Children
Briefly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access to your content is enforced at the database level, so one account cannot read another's data. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your journal and transcripts as private by default.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
